Florida man sentenced in Iowa child sex case
Federal prosecutors say a Florida man who pleaded guilty to taking an Iowa girl back to Florida and having sex with her has been sentenced to more than 12 years in prison.The U.S. attorney's office says 36-year-old Justin Carter, of Jacksonville, Fla., was sentenced on Friday in federal court in Davenport. He pleaded guilty in February to transportation of a minor with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity.
Prosecutors say Carter had been talking to the then-12 year-old girl over an Internet chat room. He traveled to Muscatine to meet the girl in June 2010, and they drove to his home in Florida. FBI agents found him there. He directed agents to a nearby park, where they found the girl in a tent.

The Jacksonville criminal jury returned a 7 to 5 recommendation in favor of the death sentence. However, the Jacksonville criminal sentence will be up to the judge. She will decide if he serves life in prison or is sentenced to death. The sentencing will occur in September.
