DENVER - In the middle of summer, the Denver Komen Race for the Cure may seem a long way away, but if you sign your family up now for the Oct. 2 race you can get a discount.
We're already getting ready for the race here at 9NEWS. Wednesday morning we brought in more than a dozen breast cancer survivors along with doctors and advocates who help women and men fight breast cancer thanks in part to your donations to the Komen foundation.
Lori Hatfield and her son, Robbie, were among those who came to 9NEWS on Wednesday to share their story.
Hatfield's been cancer-free for nine years but has battled breast cancer three different times since she was in her early 30s.
"When I was diagnosed the first time at 32, the first one comes as a shock," Hatfield said. "When the second one came, it was like, 'No, can't be.' When the third one came; 'Unbelievable that this is happening to me again.' The bottom line is: the choices and options for treatment are there, and you can survive this."
Of course, a family's support is priceless and the survivors we spoke to say they could not be where they are without family and friends. That's why we want to encourage you now to sign up your family for the Race for the Cure on Oct. 2.
