They said it had low compression and would pull the top end to check the piston. When they pulled it they said it had jumped the timing chain and the gear on the upper part of chain was badly worn and they didnt know the condition of the lower gear. They also said the lower gear was directly attached to the camshaft and thus would require a full motor pull. Does anyone think or know if doing the top gear is a good risk? Should I even mess with it? I obviously got burnt on the deal when I bought this machine not long ago but now I need to figure out what to do...Even after speaking with the techs im not sure they are certain that its the problem completely. Im just at a loss here and looking for some advice from anyone. The lower gear should be fine most of the time the upper gear takes most of the stress. for 700-1000 dollars to just replace the chain and the upper gear. I would take all and order the chain and top tooth for about 100 bucks then put them in your self, it wont take that long the gear is held on usually by 2 bolts and the chain will have to be split with a chain tool, about 30 dollars from rocky-mountain, then you take the old one off. the its kinda hard but you have to take the new one and put it down below the lower gear then take something to fish it out. then put the new master link into it, then hook the cam and the gear back together, and time it. Your manual should have everything to time it and all of the torque settings for torquing the head back on. then your done.
