Case of the ill-planned beauty store robbery

Last week Monroe saw one of the most pathetic attempts at a store robbery in the history of theivedom. What clown robs a beauty supply store for cash in 100 degree heat without a getaway car or a plan of escape? That's what at least two men attempted to do at the First Lady Beauty Supply Store on Renwick Street.

Of all the places to conduct a robbery....a beauty supply store. Really? Not a bank, convenience store, post office, check cashing center, the drug dealer on the corner? A beauty supply store? It's hard enough for black entrepreneurs to start businesses in Monroe. For even with the best interests they will have competition with the status quo. Number 6 weave sells just as good in a Black beauty supply store as it does in one owned by a Korean or Pakistani dealer. But we'll sometimes drive right by the Negro shop and go into the other shop for our purchases. And then we have the nerve to rob from our own people when they are struggling to make it happen.

Fool. Yes that's the correct term of description. Fool, if you're going to conduct robbery, please take a little more time in planning, rehearsing, and executing your endeavor. Certainly the one that was engaged in on last week was poorly managed. Haven't there been enough movies out showing how heists are conducted. The master theives don't just wake up one morning and say "Hey I'm going to rob a beauty supply store today." Months and sometimes years of planning go into devising an effective robbery. I'm thinking already, that would require too much brain activity for the fool who robs a beauty supply store.

A smart thief would approach the warehouse that supplies the beauty supply store. It's more profitable to steal thousands of dollars worth of beauty supply products and make a profit off of them than to attempt a petty robbery at the retail store for only a few measly bucks. But again, that type of high scale operation requires a little brain activity...more than those two guys were capable of using on last week.

A getaway car and escape plan is paramount. Who goes into a store to rob it without having an effective escape plan?

He knew he was an outsider. He didn’t speak their language. But he was trying to break into their world ” a billion dollar market that primarily services black hair. For almost 50 years, the Korean-American community has dominated the black beauty supply market by opening large stores, buying out smaller black-owned ones and using the faces of black celebrities on their products and black employees in their stores to grow their businesses in the black community.
