Journaling from Japan: To my faithful prayer partners & readers
I just want to thank you all who were praying for me while I was in Japan. I definitely couldn't have done it without the knowledge that I was being prayed for, and that God was with me. I know that God has a reason for my being back in the States unexpectedly, and that He has a reason for the mere month I was in Japan. I feel that I have learned a lot about God's character, my relationship with Him, and my-self & my reactions to trials through it all. I would like to continue keeping a blog, just to share things that God has been teaching me, funny stories, encouragements, etc. I'm still trying to figure out if I should just change the name of this one, or start a whole new one? When it happens I will let you know!! I am currently a junior at Northland International University, majoring in Office Administration. The Lord presented me with this unique opportunity last fall, to spend six months in Japan with missionaries Ken & Vicki Mansell. Please pray with me as I continue to seek God's will in this mission trip as well as in my life after my return to the State's! This opportunity started out when I attended an informative meeting about NIU's Global Study Abroad Program. (GSA) I went into this meeting with much prayer, open to wherever God would lead. This program gives students the opportunity to stay with a missionary, and assist in ministry while taking college classes online. When I first contactes Mansells about GSA, my desire was to go to Europe, where I have relatives and a close friend. I contacted the Mansells at my mom's suggestion, after learning that she had known them since her college days. Psalm 37:4-5 says 'Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.' In the past, I have thought this verse to mean basically, that God will give you what you want if you keep your focus on Him. He has shown me the true meaning of this passage in this last year; by being open to His leading and will, He made His desires my desires. When the Mansells contacted me about the GSA program, they asked if I would be willing to come in June, and stay through December. My six months in Japan will consist of learning to speak and read Japanese, assisting with teaching English in nearby schools, and assisting Mansells in their home & church.
