Seriously, I cannot stay at the Outer Banks, Myrtle Beach or anywhere in Florida this inexpensively. I am, on the other hand, crossing my fingers and not expecting many frills with this accommodation. Is it true you get what you pay for?

The Caribbean Resort is located at the northernmost end of the Myrtle Beach “strip” and the southernmost end of the town’s “Golden Mile,” giving it a unique mix of tourist-related and local-oriented businesses in the neighborhood. Both the activity and tranquility of Ocean Boulevard are just short strols away from your hotel. * Fine dining: Right next door to the hotel is one of the oldest and most respected restaurant on the Grand Strand. The Sea Captain’s House , once an oceanfront guesthouse, has been serving up Southern seafood cuisine to locals and visitors for almost 50 years. Patrons can sit on the porch or by the giant windows and see the ocean where their meals came from. Also check out New York Prime on 28th Avenue North for the best steaks and service in town. * Casual dining: Located on Kings Highway, just one block inland, and 34th Avenue North is one of the best-kept secrets on the Strand, Mr. Fish. Located in a strip mall, this seafood establishment is popular among locals for its fresh catches of the day and its new sushi bar. Once located downtown, the new location packs them in for lunch and dinner. Also worth visiting in the neighborhood are Bennett’s Calabash Seafood, Gauchao’s Brazilian Steakhouse, Magnolia’s, Nibils and Mexico Lindo. * Fast food: Omega Pancake & Omelet House, located on the corner of Kings Highway and 29th Avenue North, may not be traditional fast food, but if you’re looking for a quick, delicious breakfast anytime of day, here’s your hot spot. Omega serves up lunches as well, but is best known for its wide range of fresh breakfast selections. Also within walking distance are Wendy’s, Dunkin’ Donuts, Little Italy Pizza, Arby’s, Subway and California Pizza. * Shopping: Nearby Kings Highway is lined with strip malls feature small shops and mega-beachwear stores. Pipeline Surf Shop, located on Kings Highway and 31st Avenue North, and the Surf Shop are different from the run-of-the-mill beachwear stores in town. More oriented toward surfers than souvenir shoppers, Pipeline has everything you need to play at the beach. The ladies should also check out La Plage Swimwear, which features exotic bathing suits for women.* Bar: Located directly across the road is the Kings Saloon Drifter, an unpretentious bar at the end of a shopping center. But there are good times behind the door sedan, including pool tables, darts and other games. The crowd consists mostly of locals, but the friendly atmosphere and is open to tourists. The bar is for fans of Cleveland Browns and Ohio transplants. See also Shamrock, located a few blocks south, to an Irish pub with southern charm. * Attractions: Fortunately for Caribbean visitors, the resort features plenty of entertainment options for the whole family, including a 90-foot long lazy river and water slides. But there are a few places nearby worth the short walk, such as Captain Hook’s Adventure Golf, one of the nicest putt-putt courses in the area, and the Children’s Museum of South Carolina. For a quieter escape from the resort, stroll down the beach or boulevard to the north and check out some lovely beachhouses.
